For more than 60 years, we have been ferrying passengers safely to the Berlengas archipelago.
Over one million passengers
In 1958 we started the scheduled departures from Peniche to the Berlenga with the Novo Rumo Boat. The leaflet price for a return ticket was then 30 escudos.
The first vessel built in the shipyard, suitable to the conditions and the sea of Berlengas.
In July 1950 began the scheduled departures from Peniche at 10 o’clock and returning at 6 o’clock. After eight years José Bento dreamed of building a new boat adapted to the crossing to the Berlengas.. He invited five friends and formed Viamar with António Bento, Francisco Malheiros, Manuel Malheiros, Mário Labiza, João Conceição and José Bento. With this company was born the New Rumo, the first vessel of the Viamar.
Our current boat, Cabo Avelar Pessoa, is the largest vessel to sail to Berlenga with 25 meters in length and capacity for 185 passengers.
