Timetable, May to September
The crossing takes about 45 minutes. A single boat, the Cabo Avelar Pessoa, runs every sailing of the day. Look at the last column: the time ashore is the same in every combination.

When is the best time to go
May, June and September are the best weeks for anyone deciding on price: €19.90 per adult, the lowest of the season, and a far quieter island. The sea is usually kind and the trails are walkable without the heat.
July and August are the peak. The island has a legal limit of 550 visitors at a time, so weekends sell out weeks ahead and prices are the highest of the season. If those months are your only option, book well in advance and choose a weekday if you can.
Whatever the date, the stay is the same: 5 hours ashore. That is time for Carreiro do Mosteiro beach, the Fort of São João Baptista, the trails, the caves by boat and lunch on the island, without rushing.
Before you board
- Boarding: Peniche Marina, next to the Fortress. Look for the CHECK-IN flag or a uniformed member of the Viamar crew.
- Arrive 45 minutes before departure. Groups: one hour. The contractual minimum is 30 minutes.
- Crossing: about 45 minutes aboard the Cabo Avelar Pessoa — 180 seats, two toilets and dedicated places for families and reduced mobility.
- Luggage: two items per person plus one piece of hand luggage. For large items, call ahead: +351 911 001 099.
- Bring sun cream, a hat, water, a light jacket, comfortable shoes and a power bank — mobile coverage on the island is poor.
- Bad weather: if Viamar cancels because of sea conditions, the refund is full.
