Cancellations & Refunds
Company cancellations
Due to adverse weather conditions (e.g. rough seas), mechanical failures or maritime authority orders, cancellations may occur without prior notice. In these situations, the client is entitled to a full refund or trip rescheduling at no additional cost.
Client cancellations
We advise contacting us at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure; cancellations under these conditions will be refunded or rescheduled. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance are non-refundable, except in cases of proven illness or if you have purchased the flexible ticket ("trip protection") — which allows changes up to 30 minutes before departure.
Failure to appear at the boarding gate at least 5 minutes before the scheduled departure implies the loss of the ticket and the amount paid, with no right to a refund.
Schedules & Operational Changes
Departure times follow the schedule published in the 'Schedules' section of our website, but may be subject to adjustments or cancellations for operational reasons, such as insufficient passengers or adverse maritime conditions.
In such cases, VIAMAR will contact passengers to proceed with a refund or rescheduling of the cancelled trip.
The company reserves the right to replace the vessel with one of different capacity, without prior notice, provided that safety and transport conditions are guaranteed.
Boarding Conditions
Passengers must present themselves at the boarding point (Marina de Peniche) at least 30 minutes before departure for check-in and collection of physical tickets. For groups, arrival at least 1 hour in advance is recommended.
Minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult or present a duly certified authorisation.
Animals are not permitted on board, except guide dogs, with prior notice.
Safety & Liability
Passengers must comply with all crew instructions, particularly those relating to on-board safety, use of life jackets and remaining on the vessel. Non-compliance may lead to refusal of boarding or interruption of the trip, without the right to a refund, whenever justified for safety reasons.
Smoking on board is strictly prohibited.
Consumption of alcoholic beverages on board is prohibited, as well as boarding by visibly intoxicated passengers; in these situations, boarding may be refused by the crew.
During the trip, passengers must remain seated, except for strictly necessary movements, namely to use the restroom.
The company is not responsible for loss or damage to personal belongings resulting from exposure to water, improper handling or passenger negligence, without prejudice to any legally provided rights.
Passengers with reduced mobility or specific health conditions must inform the company in advance; boarding may be refused if it poses a risk to the safety of the passenger, vessel or other passengers.
Island Fees — BerlengasPass
It is the client's responsibility to acquire the BerlengasPass (via the ICNF platform) and pay the island access fee (up to €3 per person). This fee is not included in the transport ticket price.
You can purchase this authorisation directly at berlengaspass.icnf.pt or via the "Get BerlengasPass" button on our website.
Payment & Reservations
Reservations can be made by phone or in person. To secure your booking, we recommend that payment be completed at least 48 hours before the boarding time.
Reservations are accepted free of charge, but the trip will only be confirmed after payment, which must be completed no later than 24 hours before departure.
If you wish to reschedule your trip less than 24 hours in advance, you must purchase the flexible ticket (trip protection).
Weather & Sea Conditions
The company reserves the right to suspend trips in case of strong winds, port closure by maritime authorities, heavy swell or warnings issued by the Port Authority.
In these situations, your trip may be rescheduled at no cost.
We recommend that passengers bring adequate seasickness medication if needed. The company provides basic first aid assistance only.
Behaviour on the Island
It is strictly prohibited to litter, camp outside designated areas or disturb the island's fauna and flora. Non-compliance with these rules may result in exclusion from future trips with the company.
