How to reach Peniche

The gateway to Berlenga is the Marina de Peniche. Once you arrive in Peniche, the Viamar crossing takes you to the island in 45 minutes.

By car
From Lisbon: ~1h30 via A8 → IC1 (Peniche exit).
From Porto: ~3h via A1 → A8 → IC1.
From Spain: ~2h30 from Badajoz via A6 → A8.

By bus
Rede Expressos and FlixBus run daily coach services from Lisbon to Peniche, with several departures throughout the day. Journey time: approx. 2 hours.
The Peniche bus stop is ~15 min walk from the boarding marina.

Berlenga is a fragile ecosystem. Protecting it is the responsibility of every visitor — including you.

Berlenga Island is a Nature Reserve with strictly defined access and behaviour rules. Respecting them is a condition for preserving this unique ecosystem and ensuring visits can continue. Non-compliance may result in exclusion from future trips with Viamar.

BerlengasPass required — purchased separately at berlengaspass.icnf.pt (up to €3 per person).
No littering — use the designated bins or take your waste with you.
Stay on marked trails only — respect all flora protection signage.
No wild camping — camping outside the designated area is illegal in the reserve.
Max. 550 simultaneous visitors — a limit set by the competent authority to protect the ecosystem.
Do not feed the animals — including seagulls and other nesting birds.
Respect fauna and flora — do not pick plants or collect geological or mineral samples.
No loud music — preserve the natural environment and the well-being of all visitors.
